Madeleine Boyd studied theatre design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. Her most recent works include the set design for Macbeth at the Grange Festival in Winchester, the highly acclaimed world premiere of Raising Icarus in Birmingham and her set design for La traviata at the Komische Oper Berlin. Other works included the set design for Carmen (Nikikai Opera Foundation, Tokyo), the opera Wuthering Heights (Opéra National de Nancy-Lorraine) and the set design for the production of Bernstein's A Quiet Place (Opera Zuid, Maastricht), which was awarded the Reumert Theatre Prize as the best opera production in 2016. She also designed the set for Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring at the renowned Maggio Musicale Festival in Florence and the trilogy of Gaetano Donizetti's three queen dramas (Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda and Roberto Devereux) at the Welsh National Opera. Other works included Arthur Schnitzler's Liebelei at the Vorarlberg Landestheater as part of the Bregenz Festival and Igor Stravinsky's L'Histoire du Soldat. At the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg she appeared for the first time as a stage designer as part of the Winter Festival in Schwetzingen with the production Mitridate in the 2017/18 season (directed by Jacopo Spirei).
