The Irish costume and set designer Annemarie Woods won the Ring Award in Graz in 2011 together with the British director Sam Brown. Her most recent work includes set and costume design for Polifemo (Opéra de Lille, directed by Bruno Ravella), set and costume design for Trouble in Tahiti/A Quiet place directed by Oliver Mears, costumes and set design for The Handmaid’s Tale (English National Opera, directed by Annilese Miskimmon). She regularly works at the Opernhaus Zürich, most recently designing the costumes for L'Orfeo (directed by Evgeny Titov) and Roméo et Juliette, Ada’s Butterfly as well as Girl with a Pearl Earring, directed by Ted Huffman, with whom she has worked for many years (including Rinaldo at the Frankfurt Opera, Salome at the Cologne Opera, A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Opéra National Montpellier). She was also a set and costume designer for Billy Budd, directed by Annilese Miskimmon at Den Norske Opera & Ballet in Oslo. Further engagements have taken her to the Paris Opera , Deutsche Oper Berlin, De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Welsh National Opera, the Opéra national de Nancy-Lorraine and the Glyndebourne Festival. At the Komische Oper Berlin, she designed the costumes for La traviata.
