David Cavelius was born in Saarland and studied piano, conducting, music theory, and composition in Cologne and Düsseldorf. His arrangements include piano, chamber, choral, and orchestral music, which have been performed by, among others, the Niederrheinische Sinfoniker, the Hagen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe, and at the Komische Oper Berlin. An active career as a pianist and song accompanist has taken him to France, Italy, Russia, and Switzerland, among other places. Since 2013, he has been the choir director of the Komische Oper Berlin. Under his direction, the Komische Oper Berlin Chorus was named Choir of the Year by the magazine Opernwelt in 2015 and 2025. David Cavelius has also directed rehearsals with the Saxon State Opera Chorus in Dresden, the Bavarian State Opera Chorus, and the NDR Vokalensemble.
