Andrea Sanguineti studied piano and composition at the Conservatory in Genoa and then conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna as well as at the Conservatorio di Milano. There he graduated as one of the youngest young talents at the age of only 23 in the field of orchestral conducting. Andrea Sanguineti made his debut in 2008 at the podium of the Niedersächsische Staatsorchester Hannover and has since been engaged with new productions, revivals and concerts in many cities, including: Zurich Opera, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Opéra national du Rhin Strasbourg, Sydney Opera, ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Vienna, Münchner Symphoniker and Savonlinna Opera Festival. His repertoire ranges from Italian bel canto operas and Puccini to German music dramas such as Tannhäuser and Die Tote Stadt. At the Aalto-Theater Essen he has already conducted Tristan und Isolde, Parsifal, La Forza del destino and La fanciulla del West. He can also point to collaborations with numerous renowned artists, including Frank Peter Zimmermann, Anna Vinnitskaya, Maria Agresta, Alexey Vinogradov, Jonathan Tetelman, Benjamin Bernheim, Lisette Oropesa, Saioa Hernández, Kathrin Dehaes and Rolando Villazón. Since the beginning of the 2023/24 season, Andrea Sanguineti has been General Music Director of the Aalto-Musiktheater Essen and the Essener Philharmoniker.
