Nicola Raab was born in Regensburg in 1972 and studied theatre and musicology as well as psychology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität of Munich. She then worked as an assistant director at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Vienna State Opera, the Zurich Opera House, the Bregenz and Salzburg Festivals, among others. Nicola Raab has already made guest appearances at numerous opera houses around the world, including Rusalka at the Opéra national du Rhin, Ariodante at Drottningholm's Slottsteater and Elektra at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon. She also worked closely with the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where she realized Die Fledermaus together with the Philharmonie de Paris. Most recently, Nicola Raab staged Puccini's Edgar at the Opéra Nice Côte d'Azur and Bellini's Norma at the Festival della Valle d'Itria. Highlights of the 2024/25 season include Puccini's Edgar as a co-production with the Teatro Regio Torino and the Opéra national de Nancy-Lorraine, as well as the main opera production for the Innsburcker Festwochen der Alten Musik with Les Talens Lyriques. In addition, she presented her production of Boris Gudonov at the Savonlinna Opera Festival. Nicola Raab was and is a jury member of renowned singing competitions. In the 2019/20 season, she staged La traviata at the Komische Oper Berlin.
