Markus Noisternig
Markus Noisternig studied computer music and sound art at the University of Music and Performing Arts as well as electrical engineering and audio engineering at the Graz University of Technology in Austria. He works as a computer musician and researcher, and is currently Deputy Director of the STMS laboratory, the research division of IRCAM in Paris, France. He also teaches at Sorbonne University, the École Nationale Supérieure Louis-Lumière in Paris, and the École supérieure d’art et de design Le Mans in France.
His artistic work has led him to collaborate with ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Modern Frankfurt, Ensemble intercontemporain Paris, and the International Contemporary Ensemble New York, as well as with opera houses and concert venues worldwide. For many years, Markus Noisternig has regularly worked as a computer musician and sound designer with composer Olga Neuwirth. Their collaboration includes numerous productions, among them the operas Bählamms Fest, Lost Highway, and Monster’s Paradise. In the season 2025/26, he is responsible for the sound design of Neuwirth’s opera Orlando at the Komische Oper Berlin directed by Ewelina Marciniak.
