Saskia Wunsch
Saskia Wunsch, a set designer, was born in Karl-Marx-Stadt (Chemnitz). She first completed an apprenticeship as a milliner before studying set and costume design at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. She worked as an assistant at the Theaterhaus Jena, for the Forsythe Company at the Festspielhaus Hellerau, and at various opera houses. Since 2005, she has been creating her own works as a set and costume designer.
Saskia Wunsch has worked on productions at, among others, the Staatsschauspiel Dresden (Der Wildschütz), the Theater Bielefeld (Peter Grimes, Les Contes d’Hoffmann), the Neue Bühne Senftenberg (Wolfs Welt, Nelly Goodbye), at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich (Pinocchio), at the State Theater in Karlsruhe (Gott), at the Chemnitz Opera (The Marriage of Figaro), the Landestheater Detmold (Frau Luna), and the Stuttgart State Opera (Die Liebe zu den drei Orangen, Hänsel and Gretel).
She has worked closely with directors Katja Wolff, Samia Chancrin, and Axel Ranisch, with whom she most recently collaborated at the Berliner Ensemble (Mutti, was machst du da?). With him, she will stage Intermezzo at the Semperoper Dresden and Der Spieler at the Staatsoper Stuttgart during the 2024/25 season. Saskia Wunsch makes her debut at the Komische Oper Berlin with the set design for Messeschlager Gisela, directed by Axel Ranisch.
