Josefine Mindus
From the 2024/25 season, Swedish soprano Josefine Mindus is a member of the ensemble at Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, where she made her company debut as Chief Gepopo and Venus in Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre. Her performance was met with enthusiastic reviews, praised for its vocal virtuosity and fearless theatricality. She went on to sing Frasquita in Carmen and Elsbeth in Offenbach’s rarely staged operetta Fantasio.
Mindus’ 2025/26 season include several role debuts, including Ännchen in Der Freischütz, Despina in Così fan tutte, Die Nachtigall in Braunfels’ Die Vögel and the title role in Rimsky-Korsakov's The Snow Maiden. Other highlights of the 2025/26 season include a return to Konzerthaus Berlin, singing La Fabbrica Abbandonata with ensemble unitedberlin and Vladimir Jurowski and her return to Komische Oper where she will perform Brett Dean’s Ophelia Mad-scene, And once I played Ophelia, conducted by Tito Muñoz.

In the summer of 2025, Mindus made her debut at Drottningholm Slottsteater in Stockholm, in Telemann’s Orpheus, conducted by Francesco Corti. In August 2025 she was a finalist of the International Singing Competition for Baroque Opera »Pietro Antonio Cesti« in Innsbruck and in September, she was selected as one of the top candidates to compete for the 2026 Swedish Soloist Prize, Sweden’s most prestigious award for young musicians.
Mindus’ 2023/24 season included her role debut as Blonde in Die Entführung aus dem Serail at Stadttheater, Bühnen Bern, and her Italian debut as Amore in Orfeo ed Euridice, directed by Damiano Michieletto, at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto. She also returned to her home theatre Komische Oper Berlin to cover the role of La Mort in Das Floss der Medusa, in a production by Tobias Kratzer, conducted by Titus Engel.
Josefine was born outside of Stockholm, Sweden, in a music-loving family. After completing her composition studies at Gotlands Tonsättarskola in 2014, she decided to fully focus on singing, beginning at Vadstena Folkhögskola where she studied Lied with Monica Thomasson and Magnus Svensson. She graduated from the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover in 2021, studying with Marek Rzepka and Jan Philip Schulze, and has been guided over the years by mentors such as Erik Årman, John Norris and Caren van Oijen.
