The Blizzard
After Vladimir Sorokin
Guest performance
Vladimir Sorokin’s The Blizzard is a ‘road novel’ of the most fantastical kind, with a country doctor and his coachman travelling through a fairy-tale, post-apocalyptic Russia, racing to vaccinate the population against a mysterious plague that turns the infected into zombie-like creatures. As they drive their sleigh through a raging blizzard, hallucinations and homesick dreams begin to blur the line between reality and fantasy.
Kirill Serebrennikov transforms Sorokin’s novel into a fever dream of theatre – polyphonic, seductive, and unsettling. With dance, live projections, and a troupe of actors and musicians, the director crafts an existential cabaret suspended between fairy tale and dystopia, submerging the audience in sensory overload and surrender. Hailed at the Salzburg Festival, The Blizzard is now sweeping into Berlin for the first time.
