Ivan Estegneev

Ivan Estegneev was born in Russia in 1980 and studied in Saint Petersburg. He is the co-founder and artistic director of the Dialogue Dance School and Company in Kostroma. The company has been awarded the national theatre prize "Golden Mask" three times for its performances and has worked with important companies and choreographers from Russia, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Austria and South Africa. Ivan Estegneev and his partner Evgeny Kulagin are founders and managing directors of STANTSIA, an independent center for contemporary art. Since 2012, Ivan has been working as a choreographer at the Gogol Center in Moscow, which was founded by Kirill Serebrennikov. He has worked on various productions with Serebrennikov, including two productions for the main programme of the Avignon Festival. Estegneev taught stage movement and cinema dance for the acting faculty at the Moscow Film School 2015–2022. Since 2018, he has been co-founder and managing director of the physical theatre and performance laboratory DialogLab in Moscow. From 2022 to 2024, he also curated the Context Festival. Since 2022 he has been living in Germany and working at the Thalia Theater as choreographer in residence.In addition, he teaches at the Hamburg Contemporary Dance School and at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, among others. In the 2024/25 season, he created the choreography for Don Giovanni/Requiem at the Komische Oper Berlin in collaboration with Evgeny Kulagin.
