Rufus Didwiszus
Rufus Didwiszus studied stage and costume design in Stuttgart with Jürgen Rose and has since worked as a freelance set designer in theatre, opera and dance productions, including with Barrie Kosky, Thomas Ostermeier (Unter der Gürtellinie, Shoppen & Ficken in der Baracke des Deutsches Theaters Berlin with invitations to the Berliner Theatertreffen and to Avignon); for Der blaue Vogel at the Deutsches Theater, Fire Face at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg, The Name at the Salzburg Festival and at the Berlin Schaubühne, The Girl on the Sofa at the Edinburgh International Festival and at the Schaubühne, The Strong Tribe and Before Sunrise at the Munich Kammerspiele, Sasha Waltz (Dialogues 2 at the Jewish Museum Berlin), Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (Foi with Les Ballets C de la B in Ghent), Tom Kühnel (Wagner's Ring des Nibelungen at TAT Frankfurt) as well as Christian Stückl, Stefan Larsson, Tomas Alfredson and Christian Lollike.
Since 2004, Rufus Didwiszus has been designing and directing his own music theatre performances with Joanna Dudley, including at the Sophiensaele, the Schaubühne and the Radialsystem in Berlin as well as at the BOZAR in Brussels. With his band Friedrichs he was seen in Der weiße Wolf at the Staatstheater Stuttgart. He has also worked as a guest lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. Recently, Rufus Didwiszus has designed sets for Medea at the Stockholm Opera, for the Zurich Ballet (The Nutcracker and the Mouse King) and for the Zurich Opera House (Winterreise, Die Gezeichneten). For Barrie Kosky's productions, he has so far designed the sets for Die schöne Helena, Die Perlen der Cleopatra and Anatevka at the Komische Oper Berlin.
