Johanna Kubina

Johanna Kubina has been principal violist of the Komische Oper Berlin since 1990. She was trained at the Special School of Music with Prof. Eberhard Feltz and at the Hanns Eisler School of Music with Gerhard Riedel in Berlin. In 1988 she became the first woman to become part of the viola section of the Staatskapelle Berlin. Her engagement at the Komische Oper Berlin as solo violist was followed by solo performances such as Harold en Italie (Hector Berlioz) and Der Schwanendreher (Paul Hindemith). At the same time, Kubina became a member of the Carl-Philipp-Emmanuel-Bach Chamber Orchestra. There she played, among other pieces, the Concerto in D major by Carl Stamitz, the Concerto in G major by Georg Philipp Telemann and the 3rd and 6th Brandenburg Concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach in the then Schauspielhaus Berlin. Over the past few years, she has been active in chamber music in a wide variety of constellations in Austria, Italy and Germany. With both the Komische Oper Berlin and the Chamber Orchestra, J. Kubina has traveled to many Asian and almost all European countries. She spent a long time with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. She regularly performs as a guest in various opera houses in Germany. Kubina also taught children early musical education for a long time and is a passionate beekeeper.
