Deniz Tahberer

Deniz Tahberer is a Turkish-Canadian violinist and composer who is equally renowned for his expressive solo and chamber music performances as he is for his stylistic openness and artistic curiosity.

He gained international attention by winning first prize at the XXIX Michelangelo Abbado Violin Competition in Milan (2010). Two years later, together with pianist Ammiel Bushakevitz, he won first prize at the International Duo Competition of the Lausanne Music Academy (2012). These awards marked the beginning of an international career that has taken him to renowned stages throughout Europe.

As a soloist and chamber musician, Deniz Tahberer is a fixture in the musical life of Saxony and Berlin. He has worked with important artists such as Kolja Blacher, Natalia Gutman, Mariana Sîrbu, and Bruno Giuranna. His chamber music projects are characterized by intense musical dialogue, stylistic diversity, and a special sensitivity for tonal subtleties.

In addition to his work as a performer, Tahberer is also a passionate composer. His early works were created at the intersection of traditional Turkish music and European classical forms. In recent years, his compositional language has evolved significantly.

Electronic soundscapes, global influences, and rhythmic impulses from South African and other world music traditions increasingly characterize his current work. His music reflects an open, contemporary attitude and deliberately transcends cultural and stylistic boundaries.
Deniz Tahberer is also in demand internationally as an orchestral musician. He has performed with leading ensembles such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, and the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra. For several years, he has been deputy concertmaster at the Komische Oper Berlin, where he ideally combines his experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and ensemble artist.

Born in Adana, Turkey, in 1989, Deniz Tahberer received his first violin lessons at the age of four. After early successes in national competitions and his first concert appearances, he was awarded a scholarship to the Vancouver Academy of Music in 2005. In 2009, he continued his training in Germany at the Hochschule für Music und Theater »Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy« Leipzig in the class of Prof. Mariana Sîrbu. His studies were supported by scholarships from the Infinitum Foundation, the Free State of Saxony, and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
