Symphony No. 3

Join conductor Michael Francis and the Orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin on a symphonic journey to America! The composer Kris Bowers, with his award-winning music for films such as Green Book and series such as Bridgerton, has enjoyed a meteoric rise. His concerto For a Younger Self was written especially for Charles Yang, a violinist with the energy of a rock star, who now brings his virtuosity to Berlin. The concert will conclude with Aaron Copland’s Symphony No. 3, which Leonard Bernstein once described as ‘an American monument, like the Washington Monument or the Lincoln Memorial’. Given this, it is hardly surprising that Copland incorporates the theme of his Fanfare for the Common Man into the symphony’s final movement. Taking that work as her point of departure, Joan Tower wrote a piece that gives voice to the women overlooked by her male colleague: Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman.
