Sascha-Alexander Todtner, born in 1989, studied genetics and multimedia art in Salzburg. After graduating, in 2015 he began a close collaboration as an assistant director with Christof Loy on productions such as Peter Grimes at the Theater an der Wien, Khovanshchina at the De Nationale Opera Amsterdam, Wozzeck at the Frankfurt Opera and Ariodante at the Salzburg Whitsun Festival and the Salzburg Festival. In 2017 he began to work at the Hamburg State Opera, where he worked with renowned directors such as Willy Decker, Georges Delnon, Dmitri Tcherniakov, David Bösch and Herbert Fritsch and has revived numerous productions. Guest engagements have taken him to the Vienna State Opera with Herbert Fritsch, the Lisbon Opera with Georges Delnon and to China with Johan Simons. At the Hamburg State Opera, he staged Paul Abraham’s Märchen im Grand Hotel in 2020 and Reynaldo Hahn’s Ciboulette in 2024. Since 2025, he has been working as a freelancer, also in the field of costume. In the 25/26 season, together with director Herbert Fritsch, he is responsible for the costumes for the opera Macbeth at the Theater Basel and Belshazzar at the Komische Oper Berlin.
