Nicholas Carter
Nicholas Carter, born in Melbourne, former Principal Conductor of the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and now Music Director of the Staatsoper Stuttgart beginning with the 2026/27 season, has collaborated with orchestras around the world, conducting, among others, the Oslo Philharmonic, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Radio Orchestra, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. In the past, Carter has conducted Brett Dean’s Hamlet and Strauss’s Arabella at the Metropolitan Opera, The Magic Flute at the Dresden State Opera, Das Rheingold at the Stuttgart State Opera, and Tosca at the Bern Opera. Carter has also made guest appearances at venues such as the Vienna State Opera, the Zurich Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the Santa Fe Opera. From 2027, Carter will be appointed as Chief Guest Conductor at Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. At the Komische Oper Berlin, Nicholas Carter is conducting Lear directed by Barrie Kosky at Hangar 4, Flughafen Tempelhof.
