Wolfgang Behrens
Wolfgang Behrens, born in 1970, has been chief dramaturge of the Komische Oper Berlin since the 2025/26 season. He studied musicology, philosophy and mathematics at the Free University of Berlin. From 2017 to 2024 he worked at the Wiesbaden State Theatre, first as a dramaturg, then as drama director. Previously, he was an editor at Theater der Zeit from 2005 to 2007 and then at nachtkritik.de for ten years. In addition, he wrote reviews for Theater Heute, Die Deutsche Bühne and the Berliner Zeitung, among others. He published books on the directors Einar Schleef and Fritz Marquardt and worked as an editor on two volumes on Richard Wagner. His most impressive theatrical activity to date was the surtitle stage of a guest performance at the National Theatre in Baghdad.
