Martin G. Berger, born in 1987, is a director, author and translator and was the opera director at the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater from 2021–2022. Berger is the only German director to have won equally major prizes for his work in opera, musicals and operettas: including the »FAUST« for best opera direction (for Ariadne auf Naxos at the Deutsche Nationaltheater Weimar 2020), the International Opera Award for the best rediscovery (for Kublai Khan at the MusikTheater an der Wien 2024), twice the German Musical Theatre Award for Best Director (Stella at the Neuköllner Oper 2016 and Kasimir und Karoline at the Staatsoper Hannover 2024) and the »Orpheus Operetta Needle« for special services to operetta (for Roxy and her Miracle Team at the Staatstheater Augsburg 2017).

His directing work can be seen at major houses such as the Staatsoper Stuttgart, the Volksoper Wien, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Theater Basel, among others, and his libretti and translations can be heard at the Komische Oper Berlin, the Frankfurt Opera and the Staatsoper Hannover, among others. This season he is staging the operetta In Frisco ist der Teufel los at the Komische Oper Berlin.
