Frank Wilde was born in Göttingen. In 1984, he began studying fashion design in Vienna, graduating with honours in 1988. The following year, he founded the international fashion label Comme il faut with Nicole Fischnaller. After the label was discontinued, Wilde co-founded the styling agency perfectprops in Vienna in 1996, which also opened in Berlin in 2000.

Frank Wilde's first costume work for film was for Ralf Hüttner's urban romantic comedy Mondscheintarif (2001). As a director, Wilde produced several music videos for Sarah Connor in 2001/2002. Over the course of his career, he has created styling for numerous music stars, including Herbert Grönemeyer, Nena, Sabrina Setlur, Marius Müller-Westernhagen, Bill Kaulitz, Romy Haag and Udo Lindenberg.

Wilde was (and still is) also very active as a costume designer in the advertising sector, working for BMW, Schwarzkopf, Telekom and Samsung, among others. He collaborated with Iris Berben and Heike Makatsch on commercials for L'Oréal. In the cosmetics and fashion sector, he also styled top models such as Nadja Auermann, Izabel Goulart and Coco Rocha.

He shot a commercial for Telekom Entertain (2010, directed by Jan Wentz) with Nina Hagen. Photographers Wilde has worked with include Anton Corbijn, Rankin, Elfie Semotan and Günter Parth.

For Frank Wilde's second cinema work (together with Nora Bates and Thomas Oláh), he designed the costumes for the successful musical film Ich war noch niemals in New York (I've Never Been to New York, 2019). The trio was nominated for the German Film Award in 2020 for these creations.

At the Komische Oper Berlin, he is responsible for the costume design for the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar.
