Esther Bialas
Born in Hamburg, Esther Bialas studied costume design at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. She works as a stage and costume designer and has worked with Nicolas Stemann for many years (including Hamlet, Berliner Theatertreffen 2002, the world premiere of Elfriede Jelinek's Das Werk, Berliner Theatertreffen 2004 and Die Räuber, Berliner Theatertreffen 2009).
With the acting collective »Laborlavache«, she developed stage and costume designs for several works by Christiane Pohle. She has also worked with Barrie Kosky on several occasions: Most recently, she created stage and costume designs for his productions of Die Zauberflöte, Ball im Savoy and West Side Story at the Komische Oper Berlin. At the Vienna State Opera, she set the stage for Tri Sestri by Peter Eötvös (directed by Yuval Sharon) in 2015.
For Stefan Herheim she created the costumes for The Tales of Hoffmann (Bregenz Festival 2015, Copenhagen 2017), La Cenerentola (Oslo and Lyon 2017) as well as for Sigrid Strøm Rube's production of Norma at the Oslo Opera in 2018.
Esther Bialas also taught costume design at the HfBK in Hamburg.
