Help us build an opera house!
The budget cuts in Berlin’s cultural sector have taken a toll on the Komische Oper Berlin. That is why the Friends of the Komische Oper Berlin (Förderkreis der Komischen Oper Berlin e. V.) have set the ambitious goal of raising one million Euros to support the long overdue renovation of the historic opera house on Behrenstraße. Your donation will help us rebuild our opera house by financing the restoration of the delicate figures in the auditorium as well as the installation of steel beams and electrical wiring.
Background
After renewed assurances from the Mayor of Berlin as well as the inclusion of our project in the Berlin Senate’s investment plan, we are relieved that the renovation of our theatre can continue.
However, the Komische Oper Berlin must compensate part of the construction costs — a significant challenge! While we are also looking into alternative funding solutions, the Förderkreis der Komischen Oper Berlin is committed to raising one million Euros for the construction costs in 2026. This campaign is more than just financial support; it is a powerful statement that our audience, who visit our shows every night, and our supporters are dedicated to preserving the future of this extraordinary opera house.
We are thrilled to announce that we have already raised €200,000 and would like to thank all those who have contributed so far. Join in and help us build an opera house!

How will my donation be used?
Your donation goes to the Förderkreis der Komischen Oper Berlin e. V., who collects and then transfers all collected funds directly to the Komische Oper Berlin.
With the gutting of the building completed, the first restoration work is already under way on Behrenstraße. Your contribution will be used to restore the auditorium’s decorative figures and stucco, ensuring they will shine in all their former glory when the opera reopens, as well as to purchase construction materials, including cables and steel beams, which are essential for the building’s structure and infrastructure.
By donating, you become part of the opera’s history—your contribution will quite literally help rebuild this landmark in the heart of Berlin.

Will I receive a donation receipt?
For donations of up to €300 per year, your bank statement is sufficient proof for tax purposes, so we will not issue a donation receipt.
If you still require a donation receipt, please contact us and send your postal address to foerderkreis@komische-oper-berlin.de.
For donations exceeding €300, we will automatically issue a donation receipt and send it to the postal address registered in our ticketing system.
