Trance

With this artistic and critical self-exploration by Tianzhuo Chen, the trance state is inescapable. The title of this twelve-hour performance says it all: occupying the space between ritual and club culture, Tianzhuo Chen and his conjurers invite us to lose ourselves in this immersive cosmos, to wander through this assemblage of homo without sapiens and aliens without identities, joined by speed gurus and spiritual ninjas, rainbow monsters and sedated spectres, in a world of bony romance and cosmic inferno. Dance in the blues of the city, let your ears be mesmerised as the sun goes down.

In six chapters covering twelve hours, Trance crosses traditional rituals and narratives with an imaginary sci-fi future while also building a bridge to the techno-futuristic present. It’s up to you whether you dare to enter this transcendental world of stretching and broadening realities, encountering a psychedelic multiplicity of bodies and beings who meditate and expand, who dance with frenetic speed and glacial slowness.

Audience may come and go.Includes strobe lights and nakedness. Performers may smoke, but otherwise smoking is not allowed.
