From child genius to global star – in her home country, the young Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti is a Member of the Order of the British Empire, and she inspires an audience of millions around the world. The Estonian conductor, composer and charismatic musical pioneer Kristjan Järvi contrasts Benedetti’s interpretation of Dmitri Shostakovich’s first violin concerto with a classic piece of film music and excerpts from Kurt Weill’s musical version of the Good Soldier Švejk. The congenial finale is provided by Järvi’s Babylon – Hot House Berlin – this is the sound of the twentieth century!
