Berlin in Lights?

Symposium on Weill, Brecht, and the Berlin of the 1920s
The works of Kurt Weill and Bertolt Brecht raise questions with implications stretching beyond pure aesthetics, into political, sociological and cultural-historical territory: Can theater and performance strategies bring about social change? What makes the sound of a given era distinct from any other? Were the Golden Twenties really as dazzling and wild as we imagine them today? These and other questions will be explored in a symposium to take place from February 12th to 14th in collaboration with the Berliner Ensemble and the Berlin Philharmonic.
