Plateau Effect

Staatsballett Berlin
Ballett von Jeft van Dinther
The dancers in Jefta van Dinther’s Plateau Effect resemble a community in constant and restless transformation, crossing through changing terrains in perpetual movement. With nine male and female dancers, Dinther seeks an effect of unclear orientation, challenging the viewer to take in simultaneously multiple levels of choreography, lighting, and staging. The interplay of seeing within and among the dancers on one side, and their interaction with the material on the other, creates a »choreography of material.« Small details conglomerate and melt together to a stunning magnitude, so that the sober reality of the material falls into a psychedelic state of exception. At the intersection of facts and suggestion, Plateau Effect tests our ability to go beyond the here and now.
