Jens Larsen

Born in Hamburg, Jens Larsen studied singing in his home city under William Workman, and in Cologne under Kurt Moll. His first engagement led him to the Staatstheater Darmstadt, and he was a member of the Theater Basel's ensemble from 1996 to 2001. In 2001, Larsen joined the Komische Oper Berlin. His roles include Sarastro in »The Magic Flute«, Rocco in »Fidelio«, Don Magnifico in »La Cenerentola«, King Henry in »Lohengrin«, King Mark in »Tristan and Isolde«, and Baron Ochs auf Lerchenau in »The Knight of the Rose«. Guest performances have led Jens Larsen to venues including the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Bayerische Staatsoper München, and the Helikon Opera in Moscow. He has worked together with such directors as Christoph Marthaler, Nigel Lowery, Herbert Wernicke, Peter Konwitschny, Calixto Bieito, Barrie Kosky, Hans Neuenfels, and Andreas Homoki. At the Komische Oper Berlin, Larsen has sung in such roles as Leporello in »Don Giovanni«, Osmin in »The Abduction from the Seraglio«, Papageno in »The Magic Flute«, Judge of the Dead in »The Condemnation of Lucullus«, the Duke of Gloucester in »Lear«, and the title role in »Don Pasquale«.
