Geraldine Arnold
Geraldine Arnold lives in Berlin and studied art history, philosophy and sociology in Cologne as well as costume design with Dirk von Bodisco and Reinhard von der Thannen in Hamburg. She assisted at Kampnagel Hamburg, the Folkwangschule Essen and the Komische Oper Berlin, among others. During her studies, she created her own stage and costume designs at Kampnagel Hamburg, Thalia Theatre in Gaußstraße Hamburg, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Schauspielhaus Bochum, Schauspiel Frankfurt, with Sebastian Schug (Werther Phantome and Frühlings Erwachen at Staatstheater Kassel, Idioten and Dirty Rich at the Stadttheater Heidelberg, Früchte des Nichts and Hedda Gabler at the Theater Bremen), with Sarantos Zervoulakos (Jenseits von Eden at the Theater Heidelberg and Iphigenie auf Tauris, Amphitryon at the Theater Oberhausen, Die Katze auf dem heißen Blechdach at the Staatstheater Mainz). She has developed costume designs at the Basel Theatre, the Lucerne Theatre, the Darmstadt State Theatre, the Augsburg Theatre, the Hanover Theatre and the Graz Theatre, as well as the set and costume design for Ivanov at the Lübeck Theatre.
She has worked with Benedikt von Peter for many years (Intolleranza 1960, La traviata and Don Giovanni at the Hanover State Opera and Eugene Onegin at the Heidelberg City Theatre).
She was nominated as ‘Costume Designer of the Year 2009’ in the Opernwelt critics' poll for her costumes for Eugene Onegin. At Theater Bremen, she developed the costumes for the productions Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny, La traviata, Mahler III, La Bohème and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg - all directed by Benedikt von Peter, as well as for the operas Orlando Furioso, Carmen and Maria Stuarda directed by Anna-Sophie Mahler and the world premiere of the novel Endlich Kokain directed by Pedro Martins Beja. In 2015, she developed the stage and costumes for the Bremen Sylvester Gala directed by Lennart Hantke.
At Schauspiel Köln, Dresden and Stuttgart, she designed the costumes for productions directed by Nuran David Calis. She has also worked on various short film productions and created costumes for music videos, image films, costumes for the theatre collective Talking Straight and independent dance and theatre productions.
In 2023, she also developed the costumes for the production Die gefesselte Phantasie at the Burgtheater Wien, directed by Herbert Fritsch.
In the 2024/25 season, she is responsible for the costume design of the musical comedy Pferd frisst Hut (staged by Herbert Fritsch) at the Komische Oper Berlin.
