Andreas Moritz was born in Bad Kissingen. In 1990, he completed his initial music studies, which focussed on the piano, trumpet, and English. He then attended the Würzburg University of Music, where he studied orchestral trumpet-playing, graduating in 1997.
From 1993 to 1995, Andreas Moritz was soloist trumpet player at the Landestheater Eisenach. In the two years which followed, he had various engagements as a trumpet player at the Philharmonisches Orchester Würzburg.
In 1997 he became involved with the Berliner Symphoniker, where he was also active in the orchestra’s executive committee for some years. In 2005, his efforts in the fight to stop the dissolution of the Berliner Symphoniker led to Andreas Moritz being elevated from his then position as the orchestra's insolvency administrator to a post as its Managing Director.
From 2005 to 2007, he was the Managing Director of the Camerata Salzburg chamber orchestra.
Andreas Moritz has been the orchestra manager of the Komische Oper Berlin since April 2008. From the winter semester 2011/12 onwards, he will take up a teaching post in the discipline of orchestra management at the Humboldt University in Berlin.
