Children’s Operas

First aesthetic experiences play anextraordinarily important role in the lives of young people. For this reason, the Komische Oper Berlin gives more attention to children and youths than nearly any other opera house to ensure that first encounters with musical theater are as engagingas possible. Children’s operas form the program’s core. For over ten years, the Komische Oper Berlin has undertaken in every season one large production of a children’s opera as well as at least one reproduction, giving just as much attention to these as all other productions on the big stage. In doing so, the Komische Oper Berlin has created a unique tradition in the German speaking world.

In the 2018/19 season the Komische Oper Berlin hopes to enchant the entire family with the first German production of the fairytale opera The Wizard of Oz. In addition, the reopening of The Town Musician’s of Bremen by the Turkish composer Attila Kadri Sendil, which premiered one year ago at Komische Oper Berlin, is sure to delight both children and adults.

Young audience members are also more than welcome to all other operas, children’s concerts and symphonies. The current schedule is available here.
