In January 2018, Anthony Bramall will conduct the restaging of Don Giovanni at the Komische Oper Berlin, where he conducted Peter Pan in 2016. Since September 2017 he has been Head Conductor at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich.
Originally from London, Bramall studied singing at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he graduated with honours, before going on to study conducting under Villem Tausky. After stints in London, Germany and Austria, and following his tenure as Kapellmeister at the Staatsoper Hannover, he has been engaged in a close collaboration with the Radio Symphony Orchestra of NDR and the Semperoper Dresden, where he made his debut in 1992 with Gioachino Rossini’s La Cenerentola. He was General Music Director of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, where he conducted operas such as Wagner’s Ring Cycle, Strauss’s Die Frau ohne Schatten, Puccini’s Manon Lescaut and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 8. Since 2012, he has been Deputy General Music Director at Oper Leipzig. Anthony Bramall’s artistic activity has taken him to places such as Bratislava, Bucharest, Gothenburg, Cagliari, Poznań, as well as Japan and the USA. In addition, he has recorded CDs for the Label Naxos with groups such as the Slovak Philharmonic and the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, as well as recordings for radio with the RIAS Orchestra of Berlin.
