With head, heart, and courage many things can be achieved – one might even say the most important things of all. That's what little Dorothy learns on her journey through the wonderful land of Oz, into which she is whirled by a dreadful storm. She hadn't in the least expected that she would be made warmly welcome there, let alone that she would find such wonderful friends in the sassy scarecrow, the lovable tin man, and the seemingly cowardly lion. Together all four have to survive all sorts of adventures until their dreams are realised. The fact that they first have to get to the Wizard of Oz, to ask him for help, is a part of the story whose main message is that the path is the goal: the goal of truly arriving and then finally getting home again.
In order to bring the charm of the story and its characters to life, to unleash the dynamism of the terrible adventure, and to bestow upon the Staatsballett Berlin and its audience a captivating evening of theatre, Giorgio Madia was engaged to lead the project. The Italian choreographer is well known, and has several international awards, for his hallmark extravagant and poetic yet humorous style.
This production is based on the American children's-book classic »The Wizard of Oz« by L. Frank Baum, and is perfectly suited to a visit with the whole family.
