Hans-Peter Scheidegger was born in Switzerland. At the same time as his studies in German literature and musicology at Berne University, he also completed singing training at the Music Conservatory there. He was awarded the soloist prize by the Schweizerischer Tonkünstlerverein and was also a prize-winner at the International Belvedere Singing Contest in Vienna. His first engagement was in Lucerne; he then made his way from the Badische Staatstheater Karlsruhe, the Theater Basel, and the Niedersächsische Staatsoper Hannover to the Komische Oper Berlin. Numerous guest performances took him to Hamburg, Stuttgart, Paris, London, Lisbon, Madrid, Toulouse, Rio de Janeiro, La Fenice in Venice, and La Scala in Milan. In doing so, he worked together with such directors as Herbert Wernicke, Peter Konwitschny, and Calixto Bieito, and with conductors including Horst Stein, Jeffrey Tate, Lothar Zagrosek, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Rafael Fruebeck de Burgos, Marc Albrecht, and Seiji Ozawa. Hans-Peter Scheidegger has interpreted roles from both the Italian and the German opera, including Wotan/Wanderer, Hans Sachs and Gurnemanz, Philipp in Don Carlo, Fiesco in Simon Boccanegra, Sarastro, and Ochs. He has been a member of the Komische Oper Berlin ensemble since 2006 and has appeared in such roles as Lutter/Crespel in »The Tales of Hoffmann«, Basilio in »The Barber of Seville«, the City Commander in »Don Giovanni«, Bartolo in »The Marriage of Figaro«, Aronte in »Armida«, and Baron Douphol in »La Traviata«.
