Carsten Sabrowski

The bass Carsten Sabrowski was born in Kiel and grew up in Concepción in Chile. He received his musical education at the Hamburg Music Academy under James Wagner and Hans Kriegel, and also studied in Vienna under Walter Berry. He won the Elise Meyer singing competition in Hamburg and made his debut at the Theater Dortmund in 1991, appearing as Masetto and Figaro. This was followed by such roles as Kecal,  Dr Bartolo, Biterolf, and Don Alfonso. In 2004, he gave guest performances as Daland in »The Flying Dutchman« at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago in Chile. Carsten Sabrowski has also guest-performed at the Hamburgische Staatsoper, the Staatstheater Wiesbaden, and theTeatro Carlo Felice in Genoa. He has also taken part in numerous CD productions, such as Dvořák's »Cert a Kaca« (WDR Sinfonie-Orchester under Gerd Albrecht), Mozart's »The Impresario« (Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under Neville Marriner), Lehár's »Tatjana«, and Reznicek's »Knight Bluebeard« (Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin under Michail Jurowski), and a Haydn production in 2009 with the Prague-based Czech Philharmonic under Gerd Albrecht. Since 2003, when he joined the Komische Oper Berlin's ensemble, he has sung on its stage in the following roles: Don Estoban in »The Dwarf«, Hobson in »Peter Grimes«, Tzar Saltan, Kecal in »The Bartered Bride«, Count Monterone, the Doctor in »Wozzeck«, Leporello, Figaro, Idraote in »Armida«, and Old Gorian in »Zora the Red«.
