Stella Doufexis

Carmen in »Carmen«, Xerxes in »Serse«, Octavian in »The Knight of the rose«

The German-Greek mezzo-soprano Stella Doufexis was professionally trained by Ingrid Figur at the Berlin University of the Arts, where she also attended master-classes given by Aribert Reimann and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. Numerous engagements as an opera singer saw her performing at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Staatsoper unter den Linden, the Scottish Opera, the Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona, the Bayerische Staatsoper München, and the Salzburg Easter and summer festivals, amongst other venues. As a concert singer, she has for instance performed with all of Germany's main radio-broadcast orchestras, the Berliner Philharmoniker, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble InterContemporain, Orchestre de Paris, and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Her work with conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Claudio Abbado, Roger Norrington, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Kent Nagano, Simon Rattle, Leonard Slatkin, Christoph Eschenbach, and Jukka-Pekka Saraste has taken her to events including the BBC Proms, the Berliner Festspiele, the Beethovenfest Bonn, and the Salzburg festival. As a guest, her debut at the Komische Oper Berlin came in 2005 in the role of Cherubino in »The Marriage of Figaro«; in the same year she became a member of the ensemble, singing in such roles as Octavian in »The Knight of the Rose«, Dorabella in »Così fan tutte«, Medea in »Theseus«, and the title role in the inaugural performance of Christian Jost's »Hamlet«.
